About Spiti: “Spiti” means “The Middle Land”, i.e. the land between Tibet and India, a forbidden area, a high altitude cold desert, between the ranges of High Himalayas with altitude between 6000 to 7000m, where the monsoon is blocked by the outer ranges of the Himalayas. Guru Padmasambhava arrived here in the beginning of 8th century and introduced and established Mahayana Tantric Buddhism at Gungri monastery by suppressing the evil forces opposed to Buddhism Every village has its own monastery and lamas dominate the social and cultural life of the community. The Sino-Tibatan speaking people, belonging to the Mongoloid race identified as Kirat in the ancient texts have strong Buddhist traditions.
Day 01: SINGAPORE – DELHI – CHANDIGARH D
Arrive Delhi airport and board on connecting flight to Chandigarh. On arrive met by your Odyssey Manager and transfer to the Hotel.
Day 02: CHANDIGARH – SHIMLA 130 km, 3 hours drive BLD
After enjoying your breakfast at your hotel drive to Shimla. On arrival explore the town of Shimla, erstwhile Indian capital in summer months, Visit the Indian Institute of Advanced Studies (closed on Mondays). This institute is housed in the then Vice-regal Lodge, which was built in 1884-88 during the British times. Post lunch take your time to explore the famous ‘Mall Road & Ridge’ to get acquainted by the olden days Shimla as compared to modern one.
Day 03: SHIMLA – SARAHAN 175 km, 5 hour drive + 2 hours lunch and stops BLD
Check your hotel out after a nice breakfast and drive 175 km to Sarahan by stopping at Narkanda. Enjoy a short walk up to the Hattu Peak, the highest point on the route to have a vast view of the Lower Himalayan ranges. Continue with your drive down to the Satluj River and carry along till Jeori and make your way up to Sarahan. Overnight stay at Sarahan.
Day 04: SARAHAN – KALPA 88 km, 3.30 hours drive + 2 hours permit time BLD
We will visit the Bhimakali temple at Sarahan in the morning to witness the morning Pooja. It is multi story structure built in a fusion of Hindu and Tibetan architecture. Non Hindus are not allowed to enter inside the temple. After breakfast drive to Recongpeo. The district head quarter of Kinnaur. After procuring Inner Line permits, visit the monastery in Reckong – Peo with a 60 ft tall statue of Buddha. On completion drive to Kalpa. The view of Kinner Kailash 6050 meters will be an enchanting site.
Day 05: KALPA–NAKO–KAZA 197 km, 4.5 hours + 3.5 hours visits BLD
After an easy morning, enjoy your breakfast start road journey to the next destination of Nako. The drive through Reckong – Peo through powari, the landscape changes to Desert Mountains pass through the desert terrain drive through Puh to reach Nako. Visit the Lake & the Monastery of Nako walk through the Village of Nako. On completion drive to Gue to see the old Mummy (552 yrs old mummy). Further drive to Tabo and enjoy your extensive visit of Tabo Monastery. On completion drive to reach Kaza for overnight stay.
Day 06: KAZA – KI – KIBBER – LANGZA – HIKKIM – KAZA Day excursion BLD
A day to explore the places of interest around Kaza. Drive up to Langza village and walk around the village to explore the paddy fields and the monastery. Further drive to reach Hikkim monastery for a magnificent view of the Himalayan ranges. This area is famous among the researchers for the ancient fossils. You can try to find one around the Monastery or get it checked from a villager. Continue further to the highest village of Kibber and visit the Ki monastery on your way back to Kaza.
Day 07: KAZA – MANALI 210 km, 6.5 hour drive + 2 hours lunch and stops BLD
After breakfast start your day with the drive towards Loser. Stop at the check point toget yourself registered and drive again to reach Kunzum pass (4551m). Take a clockwise circumference of famous Temple of Goddess Kunzum on the pass. The serene drive goes along the mighty Chandra River till Chhatru, have lunch in Chatru and continue with your journey towards Rohtang Pass. The sudden change of barren landscape in to a lush green alpine scenery is awaiting your journey post the Pass. Enjoy your descend all the way to reach Manali .
Day 08: MANALI – MANDI 320 km, 6.5 hour drive + 2 hours lunch and stops BLD
Early morning get ready for a beautiful & refreshing walk among the thick pine forests and to visit the famous Hidimba Devi Temple in the middle. Get back to enjoy your breakfast and check out to proceed with your land journey to the next destination of Mandi. Past Kullu town we shall stop at Bajaura to pay our homage and to visit Lord Shiva Temple, known as Basheshwar Mahadev among the locals. 8th century old temple encompasses 4 different forms of Lord Shiva in to four directions, with a beautifully carved rock temple.
Day 09: MANDI – CHANDIGARH – DELHI BL
Visit On arrival drive around Delhi and have lunch at one of the restaurants as per your taste. Evening transfer to the airport to board on your scheduled flight home.
