Cochin-Munar-Allepey-Kovlam-Kanyakumari-Trivendrum

Day 01: ARRIVE COCHIN                                                    SIN/COK                                                                                           NO MEALS                                                                         

Arrive Cochin airport. On arrival, met with your Odyssey Manager and transfer to the hotel for overnight stay.

Day 02: COCHIN                                          EXPLORATION                                                         BLD                                                                        

A whole day to explore the island city of Fort Cochin. After breakfast visit Dutch Palace (Mattancherry Palace remains closed on Saturdays), Mattancherry, The Dutch Palace was originally built by the Portuguese. Later, in 17th century, the Dutch modified it and presented it to the Raja (King) of Kochi. Coronations of many Rajas of Kochi were held here. Jewish Synagogue and Jew Town, the synagogue, built in 1568, is magnificently decorated by Chinese tiles and Belgian chandeliers. Giant scrolls of the Old Testament can be found here. It is located near the Dutch Palace in Mattancherry. Sun set trip to The Chinese fishing nets are distinctly unique to Cochin. It is believed that traders from the court of the Chinese ruler Kublai Khan introduced these nets here. Oddly, these nets are found only in Kochi.  Overnight stay at Kochi.

Day 03: COCHIN – MUNNAR                    128 Km, around 4.5 hours drive                                                                                          BLD

Enjoy your relaxed morning at the hotel. Post breakfast check out your hotel and drive around 4-5 hours to reach Munnar – breathtakingly beautiful – a haven of peace and tranquility – the idyllic tourist destination in God’s own country. Set at an altitude of 6000 ft in Idukki district, Munnar was the favored summer resort of the erstwhile British rulers in the colonial days. Unending expanse of tea plantations – pristine valleys and mountains- exotic species of flora and fauna in its wild sanctuaries and forests – aroma of spice scented cool air. There are few stops on the way to get stretched up and break your journey to admire the natural beauty all along the way including the tea estates and water falls as well as lunch break. A visit to the spice garden is worthwhile. On arrival check in to the hotel.

A day to explore Munnar and places of interests in its vicinity. Munnar is at the confluence of three rivers. In Tamil, the word ‘munnu’ means “three” and ‘aar’ means “river”. Hence “Munnar” is a shortened version of ‘Munnu Aar’. The 3 mountain streams joining together here are Madurapuzha, Nallathanni and Kundala. Munnar is a commercial centre with one of the world’s best tea estates. There are about 30 tea plantations in and around Munnar. Among these, majority of the plantations are owned by Tata Group’s Kannan Devan Tea Estate. A visit to Munnar can witness the nurturing of tea in plantation to the process of manufacturing and packing. The tea estates, hills, lakes and forests inside Munnar area expose its beauty. The tea plants covered Munnar hills makes the feeling of seeing a wide green carpet.

 

Day 05: MUNNAR – ALLEPEY         161 Km, around 3-4 hours drive       BLD

After breakfast drive 161 Km around 4 hours to Alleppey – the “Venice of the East”.  Alleppey is a fascinating part of Kerala.  On arrival board on deluxe houseboat for lunch and overnight journey to enjoy the Kerala Houseboat Cruise. The classic Kerala Houseboat or “Kettuvallam”, (as it would be locally known), is the giant traditional craft of the waterways. Measuring up to 80 feet in length, they were used to carry tons of rice & spices. A standard Kettuvallam can hold up to 30 tones.  Today these Houseboats have been transformed into an innovative holiday idea, including all the creature comforts of a well-furnished Bedroom, an en-suite Bathroom, cozy Living Room, Kitchen and even a Balcony for Angling.  The Houseboat will cruise at a leisurely pace along palm-fringed waterways, giving a panoramic view of Kerala Village Life. On-board catering will provide the best of Kerala Cuisine to suit your tastes. At night the Boat will be anchored on Lake Vembanad.

Day 06: ALLEPEY – KOVLAM                                                165 Km, around 4  hours drive                                                           BLD

After breakfast at houseboat leave the boat and drive 165 Km to reach Kovalam Beach at Kovalam. Kovalam” means a grove of coconut trees and true to its name the village offers an endless sight of coconut trees. is 15kms to the south of Thiruvananthapuram and is one of the finest beaches in India. It has been developed into an integrated seaside resort. On arrival transfer to the hotel for overnight stay.

Day 07: KOVLAM – KANYAKUMARI – KOVLAM                                  EXCURSION                                                                           BLD

After breakfast set off to visit Kanyakumari and Padmanabha Palace on the way. Kanyakumari is located at the southern tip of the Indian subcontinent, where three seas meet (Arabian Sea + Bay of Bengal + Indian Ocean). The small temple dedicated to Kanyakumari, or the youthful form of the primeval energy Shakti (Mother Goddess) is located on the seashore, in the town known by the same name. There are two rocks reaching out of the ocean, situated southeast of the Kumari Amman temple. One among these is Sri Padaparai, where the footprints of the virgin goddess are said to be imprinted on the rock. It is said that Swami Vivekananda sat in deep meditation and here one can also find the famous Vivekananda Rock Memorial built in 1970. There is also a dhyana mandapam here, a perfect place to meditate. Another important attraction here is the Gandhi Memorial, built on the spot where the vase consisting the Mahatma’s ashes was kept for public viewing before submersion. On completion drive back to Kovlam for overnight stay.

 

 

Day 08: KOVLAM – TRIVENDRUM – FLY HOME                                                                                                                                             BL

Morning to relax at the beach or indulge in Ayurvedic massages. Kovalam is a sheltered bay endowed with unusual beauty, located on the magnificent Arabian Sea coast.  This natural bay is a safe sea-pool, free from high waves and surges. It is an ideal place to swim, sunbathe and perhaps enjoy the ancient rites of an Ayurvedic massage and oil bath. Check out your hotel and drive around half an hour to reach Trivendrum, also called as Thiruvanatapuram, the capital city of Kerala. Due to huge diversity in culture & tradition with vast variety of natural beauty, the state is also called as “God’s Own Country”. Visit the famous Padmanabha Swami Temple at Trivendrum. Evening at leisure or explore the local market in and around the town. On time transfer to the airport of Thiruvanatapuram to board on your scheduled flight home.
