About the trip: We start our journey by visiting the then Summer Capital of British India in the beginning and Lower Himalayas inhabited by bunch of ethnic tribes & creeds. Himalayas comprise of about 2500 km in length from East to the West and it is divided as the Eastern Himalayas, the Central Himalayas and the Western Himalayas. From North to South, it widens around 350 Km and is divided as the Shivalik or the outer Himalayas, the Lower Himalayas, the High Himalayas and the Trans Himalayas. We are next to the most spectacular Lower Himalayan destinations, Manali at an altitude of 2050m nestled by High Himalayan ranges of above 6000m.
Day 01: ARRIVE DELHI INTERNATIONAL FLIGHT NO MEALS
Arrive Delhi airport & transfer to Hotel for a comfortable overnight stay at Delhi.
Day 02: DELHI – CHANDIGARH – MANALI 3.20 hours Train ride & 320 km, 6-7 hours drive BLD
On time transfer to the railway station to board on your scheduled train to Chandigarh. On arrival proceed with the uphill road drive to reach Manali. Stop for lunch on the way and on arrival transfer to the hotel. This journey offers a dramatic changes in nature from Lower Himalayas to Shivalik Himalayas and then again to the lower Himalayas. You will be driving form a hilltop to different valley structures and sometimes driving along different rivers. We would stop at Bajaura to visit Basheshvar Mahadev temple with fine stone carvings and sculptures is believed to have been built in the mid 8th century. It is truly an incredible structure. On the banks of the river Beas, roughly about 200 m off the road. On completion drive to Manali. Overnight stay at Manali.
Day 03: MANALI EXPLORATION HALF DAY EASYTREK BLD
After breakfast start with Easytrek to visit and photograph 1553 AD constructed wooden carved “Hidimba Devi Temple” also spelled as “Hadimba”. It is an ancient cave temple dedicated to Hidimba Devi, sister of Hidimba, who was a character in the Indian epic, Mahabarata. The temple is surrounded by a cedar forest. Walk to Old Manali village, names after great Hindu sage Manu. As per the legend and mythology, human and nature pass through a cycle of development and finally destroyed by deluge and few habitants survive in this cycle. During the last deluge, Manu was leader of the habitants on earth who survived on celestial boat and landed here at Manali. He set the rules now known as “Manu Sahinta” and leaded the habitants who survived with him. On completion, we walk to few more villages to see the local way of life, and to Jogni Water Falls. Further to Vashishta village for Hot Sulpher Springs and back to the town for lunch. Post lunch walk around traffic free Manali Mall Road for shopping and own activities.
Day 04: MANALI – LAMA DUGH 3320M, around 5 hours TREK BLD
After breakfast drive to Dhungri village past Hidimba Devi Temple and start our climb through thick forests but there is no water point after departing from Manali. As one gains height in this steep climb, the distinct views of different faces of Indrasan, Deo Tibba and peaks of Bara Shigri glacier open up. In the last lag, the path turns to the right and one traverses the ridge horizontally and enters the campsite on an alpine plateau studded with thick growth of alpine flowers. Overnight at camp.
Day 05: LAMA DUGH–RANI SUI 4170M, around 4-5 hours TREK BLD
The height gain on this day is approximately 1 km. The trek is through steep a ridge below Thanpri Tibba (4000m). From this point, one can have a magnificent glimpse of Manali, situated on the left bank of River Beas and the whole upper Kullu valley, which appears swathed in the different colors of the season. Overnight at camp.
Day 06: MANALI PASS EXCURSION 4850M, around 4 hours TREK BLD
Manali Pass offers some great views of the higher peaks in the region – Indrasan, Deo Tibba and Hannuman Tibba and it provides you feeling that you are on top of the world with 360 degree view of the two different ranges of the High Himalayas known as Dauladhar and Pir Panjal ranges. Since the day involves a steep ascent to the pass and a descent to the glacier, it is advisable to start early, so that we are back at our camp by early afternoon.
Day 07: RANI SUI – BOGHI THATCH 3210M, around 4 hours TREK BLD
Today is an easy day but offering a great views of the Himalayas. We would be camping on nice grassland where shepherds reach every summer with their cattle. Overnight at Camp.
Day 08: BOGHI THATCH – KALATH – MANALI 2050M, around 4-5 hours TREK BLD
Today most of the day we are ascending down to the village below Manali called Kalath, very well known for its hot water spring. On arrival drive to Manali and transfer to Hotel. Free afternoon to relax at your hotel or shop around the town.
Day 09: MANALI – MANDI 120 Km, 3 hours drive (Optional Rafting on the way to Mandi) BLD
Enjoy your relaxed morning at Manali and after lunch drive down to reach Mandi. A small town by the river Beas, it used to be a trade centre of the Northern region in olden days. Reach Mandi and check in to the hotel for a comfortable overnight stay.
Day 10: MANDI – CHANDIGARH – FLY HOME 195 Km, around 4-5 hours drive BL
Enjoy your relaxed morning at Mandi and after breakfast start with your land journey to reach Chandigarh to board your scheduled flight to Delhi and further to the connecting flight home sweet home.
